Recap: Swift's two-touchdown day helps Lions to 34-16 win against Jaguars

Game summary

Detroit Lions running back D'Andre Swift had his breakout game in Jacksonville on Sunday, as the 2020 second-round pick rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries in a 34-16 win over the Jaguars.

The Lions jumped out to a 17-3 lead in halftime and snapped a six-game losing streak in games where they lead by double digits. Kenny Golladay eclipsed 100 yards receiving for the first time this season, pulling in four passes for 105 yards.

Jaguars looking to cut into Lions lead late

James Robinson rushes for 8 yards on first down. Laviska Shenault can't haul in a second-down throw from Gardner Minshew that's behind the target. Minshew easily escapes pressure on third down and scrambles to the 37 for a pickup of 9 that'll keep the drive alive.

Jamie Collins nearly picks off a throw on first down. Minshew looks for D.J. Chark near the sideline, but can't hit his receiver. Minshew misses to Tyler Davis on third down as well, bringing up fourth-and-10. Jarrad Davis gets Minshew to leave the pocket on fourth down, forcing an incompletion.

Matthew Stafford's third-down throw is caught by D'Andre Swift, but only for a gain of 3. The Lions will line up to go for it on fourth-and-1, but end up taking an offsides penalty. Stafford tried to use the hard count to get Jacksonville to jump, but it backfired.

Jaguars get in end zone quickly as time continues to run out

Jack Fox's kickoff is returned to the 20.

Gardner Minshew throws complete to D.J. Chark on first down for a gain of 9. Minshew then hits James Robinson for a 5-yard gain on the next play, giving the Jaguars a first down at the 34.

Minshew then gets it to Keelan Cole on first down for a 24-yard gain to the Detroit 42.

Cole gets the ball again on the next play, an 8-yard completion. Minshew is hit as he throws on second down, resulting in an incompletion. Chris Conley gets open in the flat on third down and hauls in a 6-yard pass from Minshew to keep the chains moving.

Minshew hits Chark on the next play for a 14-yard completion to the 14-yard-line.

After an incompletion to Chark on first-and-10 at the 14, James Robinson gets it out of the backfield and takes it all the way to the house for a 14-yard touchdown reception.

The Jaguars fail to convert on a 2-point attempt.

Lions add to lead with Prater field goal

D'Andre Swift keeps it rolling for the Lions offense. He takes a first-down carry to the left side for a 19-yard pickup.

Swift gets 5 more yards on the next play, bringing him to 111 yards on the day. Swift picks up another first down for Detroit with another 5 yard run.

Danny Amendola slips a tackler after catching a screen pass and gets upfield for a 12-yard completion to the Jacksonville 23.

Kerryon Johnson is stopped for no gain on first down, as is Adrian Peterson on second down. Matthew Stafford's throw to the end zone on third down falls incomplete.

Matt Prater puts through a 41-yard field goal to extend the lead.

Lions defense forces three-and-out with Jaguars on the ropes

The Jaguars take over at the 20.

Gardner Minshew's first-down throw to Laviska Shenault falls incomplete. Minshew on second down throws, the pass is batted back to Minshew, and he slides down for no gain. Minshew rolls right on third down with Jarrad Davis in pursuit, winds up, and fires incomplete on a deep ball to Keelan Cole.

Lions 31, Jaguars 10 (12:25 4th)

Swift's second touchdown of day gives Lions 31-10 lead early in fourth

Logan Cooke's kickoff goes for a touchback. The Lions will get it at the 25.

Marvin Hall gets open on an out-route and hauls in a throw near the sideline for 6 yards on first down. D'Andre Swift gets 9 yards up the middle and pops a defender near the end of the run, giving the Lions a first down at the 40.

Swift goes for 5 yards to the right side on the next play. Matthew Stafford on second down hits Kenny Golladay for a 16-yard pickup. It's first-and-10 at the Jacksonville 39.

Now it's Jamal Agnew getting involved in the Lions offense, as the cornerback and former All-Pro returner catches an 11-yard pass to the Jaguars 28.

Swift gets 2 yards up the middle on first down, bringing the third quarter to a close.

END 3RD: Lions 24, Jaguars 10

Hall gets a yard on second down. Stafford's third-down throw is incomplete, but Jacksonville is flagged for roughing the passer. The Lions get a free first down at the 12.

Agnew takes an end-around to the 6-yard-line, a 6-yard gain, on first down. Swift goes up the middle for a 6-yard touchdown run. A big day for the rookie here.

Jaguars cut Lions lead to 24-10 near end of third quarter

The Jaguars take over at the 26 after a return on the kickoff.

Gardner Minshew throws deep to D.J. Chark on first down, and Amani Oruwariye makes a terrific play to lodge the ball loose. Minshew hits James Robinson for a 3-yard gain on second down. Minshew then rolls out on third down, waits, waits, waits and fires downfield to Keelan Cole for a 51-yard connection that gives the Jaguars a first down at Detroit's 20. 

Robinson catches a 2-yard pass on first down. Robinson gets stopped up the middle for no gain on second down. Minshew's third-down pass is broken up by Darryl Roberts, but there's a defensive pass interference penalty.

The Jaguars will have a new set of downs at the 13. An offsides penalty on Romeo Okwara makes it first-and-5 at the 8. 

Minshew's first-down throw to Chris Conley falls incomplete. Robinson gets 2 yards on second down. Minshew scrambles on third down and gets into the end zone for a Jacksonville touchdown.

Lions take 24-3 lead on Hockenson touchdown

Matthew Stafford and the Lions offense take over at the Detroit 14.

Matthew Stafford throws complete to Marvin Jones for a gain of 6 on first down. Adrian Peterson rushes for 5 yards on the next play, giving Detroit a first down at the 25.

Peterson's next carry is good for just 2 yards. Stafford gets Danny Amendola involved, hitting him for a 19-yard gain to the Detroit 46-yard-line. 

The Lions get a free play after one of the Jaguars lineman jumps, and Stafford throws deep to Kenny Golladay for a 48-yard pitch and catch to the Jacksonville 6. It's first-and-goal.

Stafford goes back to Golladay again, connecting for a 5-yard completion. Stafford's second-down throw to T.J. Hockenson in the end zone is broken up. Stafford's throw on third down is placed in between two receivers, and nobody can get ahold of it. It falls incomplete.

Stafford goes to Hockenson on fourth-and-goal from the 1 and connects with the second-year tight end for an easy touchdown.

Jaguars can't take advantage of Stafford interception, turn ball over on downs

James Robinson is dropped for a loss of 2 on first down. Gardner Minshew's throw to D.J. Chark on second down is caught for no gain. Chris Thompson catches a pass on third down that's good for 8 yards, bringing up fourth-and-4. The Jaguars go for it: Amani Oruwariye makes a great play to knock away a throw to the end zone.

Stafford leads off second half with interception

The Lions get it first to start the second half.

Detroit takes over at the 25. Adrian Peterson is dropped for a loss of 1 on first down. D'Andre Swift gets that yard back on second down. Matthew Stafford's third-down throw is intercepted at the line, and the Jaguars will get it at the Detroit 22.

The Jaguars take over at the 25 as they look to cut into their deficit before halftime.

Gardner Minshew throws incomplete on first down.

Injury alert: Lions DE Julian Okwara was injured on the play.

Timeout #1 Detroit (1:48 2nd)

Minshew throws complete to D.J. Chark on second down for a gain of 2. He hits Chark again on third down, this time for a gain of 8 that'll give the Jaguars a new set of downs.

Minshew then hits Laviska Shenault for a gain of 4. 

Timeout #2 Jacksonville (0:51 2nd)

Minshew throws way behind Keelan Cole on second down, almost resulting in an interception. The Lions get pressure to the quarterback on third down, but Minshew escapes and somehow dishes it to Cole for a 16-yard gain. 

Shenault drops an easy throw on first down. Minshew is strip-sacked by Trey Flowers on the next play, and the ball is recovered by Romeo Okwara at the Jacksonville 43.

Lions extend lead to 17-3 before halftime

The Lions take over at their own 22 after Jacksonville's missed field goal.

Adrian Peterson loses a yard on first down. Matthew Stafford throws complete to Peterson on second down for a gain of 18. 

Peterson rushes for 3 yards on the next play. Joe Dahl gets flagged for illegal hands to the face, making it second-and-17. Naturally, the Lions run: D'Andre Swift gets 5 yards to keep it third-and-long. Stafford throws complete to Golladay for a 36-yard gain to the Jacksonville 27.

Swift catches a quick pass for 1 yard. Kerryon Johnson rushes for 9 yards on second down, setting the Lions up with first-and-10 at the 17.

Johnson gets it again on the next play, rushing for 2. Marvin Jones catches a quick pass on second down, picking up 2 more.

Minshew completes a 2-yard pass to D.J. Chark on first down. He goes back to Chark on second down for a 10-yard gain to the 19.

Harmon intercepts Minshew on first play of drive

The Jaguars will get it at the 25 after a touchback.

Gardner Minshew loads up to throw deep, and Duron Harmon picks it off for the Lions. Not a good throw at all, but nonetheless, Detroit capitalizes on the opportunity.

Swift's 54-yard run helps give Lions 14-3 lead

Logan Cooke's kickoff goes for a touchback. The Lions will get it at the 25.

D'Andre Swift breaks free on the first carry of the drive, exploding up the middle for a 54-yard carry that'll give the Lions a first down at Jacksonville's 21-yard-line.

Swift is stopped for a 1-yard gain on the next play. The Lions end the first quarter with a 16-yard pickup via Matthew Stafford throwing complete to T.J. Hockenson to the 4.

After two carries up the middle, Swift gets into the end zone on third-and-goal from the 1 to give Detroit a two-score lead.

James Robinson rushes for 2 yards on first down. Keelan Cole gets past Jeff Okudah in coverage and hauls in a 35-yard pass down the sideline that'll give the Jaguars a new set of downs at Detroit's 38.

Robinson rushes for 6 yards on first down, then gets another yard on second down to bring up third-and-3. Laviska Shenault catches a pass out of the backfield, and the Lions display some awful tackling as he fights his way to the first down.

Cole catches a pass heading out of bounds for a 9-yard gain on first down to the 19. Shenault catches a 1-yard pass to move the chains again.

Robinson rushes for 2 yards on first down. Minshew's throw to Cole in the end zone is a touch beyond the mark.

Minshew somehow escapes a sack, flipping the ball to Robinson before going down, and resulting in a gain of 3. The Jaguars will kick a field goal.

Lions get into end zone on opening drive

The Lions take over at the 50.

Adrian Peterson rushes for 5 yards on first down. Matthew Stafford's second-down throw to Marvin Jones falls incomplete. The Jaguars are flagged for offsides on third down, giving the Lions a free first down at the 40.

Peterson gets 3 yards on first down. Stafford's throw to a wide-open Kenny Golladay on second down is a bit off the target, and dropped. Stafford takes off on third down and escapes for a 17-yard gain that'll make it first-and-10 at the 20.

Peterson gets it again on first and second down, picking up 3 yards each time. It's third-and-4. Stafford throws sidearm to Jesse James, who reaches out for the line-to-gain, but doesn't make it. It's fourth-and-inches. Stafford runs a QB sneak, picking up the first down. 

It's first-and-goal at the 9.

Stafford's throw to Golladay in the end zone draws a pass interference penalty. It's now first-and-goal at the 1.

Peterson gets into the end zone for a Detroit Lions touchdown.

Detroit wins the toss and defers to the second half. Jacksonville will get it first. The kickoff is returned to the 17, where the Jaguars will take over.

James Robinson is dropped for no gain on first down. He's wrapped up on second down by Romeo Okwara for a loss of 1. Gardner Minshew throws complete to Chris Thompson on third down, but it's only for a gain of 5 yards. 

Logan Cooke's punt is not a good one, and it goes out of bounds at the 50. The Lions will take over.
