Taylor — Westbound Interstate 94 at Beech Daly was closed for hours after a crash that killed the drivers of separate vehicles, Michigan State Police said.

Officials with the Michigan Department of Transportation said at 8:06 a.m. the freeway was closed. It reopened around 1:30 p.m.

According to a preliminary investigation, a sedan crashed into a pickup truck in the freeway's left lane and the truck crashed into a tractor-trailer that was in the center lane.

The sedan and the pickup came to rest on the left shoulder and caught fire, police said. The semi came to rest on the left shoulder and blocked the left and center lanes.

Officials said troopers who arrived at the scene found the pickup's driver was out of his vehicle and on the ground with severe burns.

First responders removed the sedan's driver, who also suffered severe burns.

Police said both were taken to a hospital where they were pronounced dead. They said the semi truck's driver was not injured.
