TSA: Traveler at Sea-Tac had empty grenade, bayonet in carry-on

Seattle — A traveler at Seattle Tacoma International Airport tried to get on a plane last month with an empty grenade and bayonet, federal officials said Wednesday.

TSA officials described the person as a budding military weapons collector who attempted on Oct. 12 to get through security with the grenade, a fixed-blade knife and a bayonet in a carry-on bag.

They said the security checkpoint lane was closed for about 24 minutes while explosive experts cleared the alarm.

Eleven days earlier someone tried to sneak a replica grenade through security at Detroit Metropolitan Airport.
