Missing Farmington Hills woman’s body found on roof

Commerce Township — The body of a missing Farmington Hills woman was found on the roof of a Home Depot store Thursday morning.

The cause of death of Elizabeth Joy Hock, 23, is not considered suspicious, according to Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard.

“We strongly believe no one else was involved in this death and it doesn’t involve foul play,” Bouchard said. “It appears just a tragic death of a young woman.”

An autopsy is pending but it is believed Hock had been there for about a week.

She was reported missing Sept. 9 by relatives and was last seen three days prior. Her car, a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria, was found Tuesday in the parking lot of the Commerce Crossing Shopping Center on Haggerty near 14 Mile after workers reported seeing it parked there for several day with the keys inside. Hock’s purse, with her identification, was found in the vehicle.

Hock’s cellphone and some personal items were found on a water heater inside a PetSmart store next to a ladder that led up to the roof, Bouchard said. Hock was found Thursday morning by deputies and Farmington Hills police officers, Bouchard said.

“At this point there is nothing to cause us to believe anything other than for some reason she climbed the roof on her own and then made her way to the adjacent Home Depot roof where she died,” Bouchard said.

How she died will be determined by the medical examiner, Bouchard said.
