A Detroit woman accused of working as an unlicensed accountant and an unlicensed real estate agent has been charged, the Michigan Attorney General's Office said.

Krystal Davis, 37, was arraigned Friday in 36th District Court with one count of accounting violations-being an unlicensed certified public accountant and two counts of violating the state occupational code-being an unlicensed real estate agent, the office said Monday.

A magistrate set Davis' bond at $100,000 and scheduled her next court date for Feb. 20.

If convicted, she faces up to five years in prison for being an unlicensed CPA and up to 90 days for each count of being an unlicensed real estate agent.

Prosecutors allege Davis, who operated under a business called Card Property Management LLC, entered into a contract with the owner of two Detroit residential properties to provide property management services.

Investigators said Davis was not licensed in Michigan as a real estate broker or real estate salesperson as required by law.

Furthermore, they said Card Property Management LLC was the assumed name of Card Enterprises LLC, which is also not licensed to provide real estate services.

In addition, Davis allegedly told another person she was a certified public accountant and tried to solicit work to prepare that person's tax returns, prosecutors said. However, Davis is also not licensed as a CPA in Michigan.

"When Michigan residents seek assistance with their business and financial affairs, they must be able to trust the representations professionals make about their qualifications," Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said in a statement. "My office will investigate and prosecute those who take advantage of their clients’ trust by offering services that require licenses they don’t hold. These licenses matter, as they often require tests of ability and teach licensees best practices in serving and protecting their clients’ interests."
