Name: Kid Jay (Jason O'Banner)

Sound: Hip-Hop with a positive message

History: Kid Jay started rapping a few years ago when he was in high school. Since then, the 24-year-old has competed in "America's Got Talent" in 2021 and collaborated with fellow AGT alums the Detroit Youth Choir. He's steadily released music, including his latest single "Deep in Love." Last month he opened for hip-hop legend Slick Rick at the Diamondback Music Venue in Belleville.

The latest: Kid Jay's latest collaboration is with Senate hopeful Hill Harper. Jay said the actor and politician chose him to be his youth ambassador. When he's not busy with that and studying audio engineering at Washtenaw Community College, Kid Jay is also working on a new album produced by Detroit rap royalty Trick Trick.

Next: Look for Kid Jay's halftime performance at the March 21 Motor City Cruise basketball game. The NBA G League team plays the Delaware Blue Coats at Wayne State Fieldhouse at 7 p.m. Tickets start at $7.
