MI Dream Home: $1.45 M Ann Arbor colonial offers carriage house, sunrooms and picturesque garden

Not only does it have a custom carriage house, but there's also a home theater, two sunrooms and a picture-perfect garden as well. And the Ann Arbor home that comes with all of it — and more — is up for sale.

Located at 2475 Devonshire Road near Geddes Avenue and Huron Parkway, the two-story, brick colonial sits on a lot that covers nearly an acre.

Built in 1924, the 3,266-square-foot house has four bedrooms, four full bathrooms and one half bathroom. The asking price is $1.45 million.

The house is minutes away from the University of Michigan's campus as well as city parks and hiking trails. It's also adjacent to 8 acres of wooded land.

"It's like being in the city but within a nature preserve," said Steven Silverman, the home's owner. "Everywhere I look outside of this house is forest. I have deer, fox and owls coming by all of the time."

Silverman said the home was originally a federal style, four-bedroom house on a sheep farm.

He said he and the home's previous owners have worked to preserve the house's character and charm.

"Everything in this house has been kept to its original style and yet it's had significant modern updates," Silverman said.

At one time, the home was owned by Thomas Sidlik, the former board member of DaimlerChrysler AG and former chairman and CEO of Chrysler Financial Corp., according to Silverman and municipal tax records.

Silverman said the former auto industry executive was responsible for much of the house's restoration and expansion.

"(Sidlik) left hard-bound notebooks of every single detail of what he did to the home, much like someone would do in the restoration of a classic car," he said.

Inside, the home has hardwood floors, built-in shelving, graceful archways and crown molding throughout.

On the first floor, the 241-square-foot living room with fireplace is sandwiched between the dinning room and a sunroom.

The updated kitchen has granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. The kitchen also has sliding doors that open to the wrap-around stone patio overlooking the backyard.

At the back of the house, there's an enclosed porch with skylights and a view of the patio that serves as the second sunroom.

All four of the home's bedrooms and two bathrooms are on the second floor. The master bedroom has vaulted ceilings, walk-in closets and an en suite bathroom with a whirlpool tub.

Its lower level has a rec room with a private home theater as well as a full bathroom and kitchenette.

In addition to the house, the property has a 600-plus-square-foot carriage house that's tailor-made for hobbies, recreation or storage.

Silverman said a master gardener has been taking care of the home's ideal yard for years. "This home was on the Ann Arbor Garden Tour five or six years ago," he said. "I love it here, but the house is too big for me now."

He said the house is perfect for anyone with a family or who likes to entertain.

"It may be a historical, 100-year-old home in three years," Silverman said. "So I'm also hoping whoever buys it will preserve it as it is. It could be an historic site."
