Correction: This story has been updated to correct information about Michael Neubecker's background.

MGM has appointed a native Michiganian to lead the MGM Grand Detroit casino and hotel. Michael Neubecker will replace Steven Zanella as president and chief operating officer.

The move has to be approved by gaming regulators.

Neubecker was chief financial officer at MGM Detroit before most recently serving as senior vice president and chief financial officer at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. MGM Resorts said Neubecker was a key member of the project team responsible for planning and building the permanent facility for MGM Grand Detroit, which opened in 2007. He’s worked for the company since the 1990s.

“Mike has a long history of success working at MGM Grand Detroit and our other properties,” said Corey Sanders, COO of MGM Resorts. “He was born in Michigan, is a graduate of Central Michigan University and has strong links to the community, including family and friends.”

Zanella has been promoted to president of core properties for MGM’s five major Las Vegas resorts.

MGM Grand Detroit is the only Forbes Four-Star hotel and spa in Detroit. The 400-room hotel has two Wolfgang Puck restaurants in the complex in addition to other dining options and the gaming floor.
